Howdy yall

I went with your recommendation and used a polymeric GFTK 840 for pointing my paving..

I have textured 450x450 concrete pavers..
I only had to brush in 14sqm so it was done in under 10 minutes and the slabs were dry and was a sunny day but the product has left staining on the pavers..
Is there any way of getting rid of the staining that you know of or LLL has it left marks on any paving you have done??

The residue will weather off fairly quickly and the flags will return to their original state. 6 months should be about right.

I used exactly the same stuff on saturday. I was just completing a front garden and i had the slabs to point up. the slabs were black limestone, and did everything you did, but it left staining around the joints, just like when too much cement is used to point using ordinary mortar.

However i used it to my advantage, i brushed the mixture over the entire area, and the finished effect was a very posh looking granite effect. So for 6 months or so until it has weathered off it will look good, after that i will be applying a gloss sealant to maintain the look.

IME this polished effect lasts a lot less than 6 months,about a week tops for me?

When I've used it the greasy look has gone after 1-2 weeks. Wouldn't touch it with yours nowadays for a pro job but often it's fine for DIY jobs.

I wasn't! I thought we were talking about polymeric sand (SikaPave, etc.) rather than the professional resin-based stuff like GftK or Romex, which are reputedly both excellent.

No i went the GFTK 840 for light traffic areas not a cheapie by anymeans espically having it shiped to London as well.. The product works fine and saved plenty of time but the client.. ie wife.. isnt happy with the staining l.. I think the pavers ( sorry australian here flags are new to me ) must have been too hot and caused it to go off fast??

It looks like you may have more than staining there. Are you sure that the 'staining' isn't the deposits of dried polymeric that should have been washed off before it all set and not just resin residue. If it is then you may be in trouble. You're missus has talons for feet by the way can she hang upside down in trees. :p

I had the whole area done in less than 10 minutes..
It was quite sunny day and pavers were warm could that be the trouble...
It is dissappointing but hope it fades ...

And why would she hang from trees when she can fly on a broomstick...

Heat and sun can be a bother for doing this so you need to keep the whole area wet until you are satisfied that all the product has ben cleaned off the flags and the only stuff left is in the joints. I think you may have been too hasty and not cleaned it all well enough. Don't know how you would clean it acid wouldn't work maybe a wire brush and plenty of water. Being an Aussie could you not just cover it up with empty tinnies or a paddling pool.

Pablo it says on the laying guide that the ground must be dry... and for at least 12 hrs afterwards so i thought water wasnt an option as it would have made the gftk 840 stain...
That may have been the trouble. I will speak to david and maybe just let him know that maybe there should be some better guidelines to using the product..
I have thought about sealing the pavers to give it the look as if it was wet.. Do you think that would be an option and can you recommend anything to go over it ??
I had a few king browns out there this afternoon.. Not enough to cover it up though.. yet

Sorry mate though you had used the Gftk slurry pointing system not the dry pointing one. Sealer wouldn't make it any worse if it is just Resin residue then a couple of coats should give it a better finish. Try Lithofin or similar don't use the cheap stuff from BM's and B&Q. Test one flag first then if it's grand knock yourself out. Let us know the results.

Further to our telephone conversation this evening, and after looking at photos, Heat might be the answer for getting residue off the pavers/slabs. I could hit this with about 250 degree heat which would remove the staining, and leave pointing intact. With regards to telephone conversation, DON"T go the citic or oxalic route.
