Hello,
this is my first post, so just wanted to say the site is brilliant. I'm very much a novice, but have tried my hand recently at laying some paving in my garden which was fairly sucessful!
My next challenge is that I am laying a path in my garden. Very light use which is slightly curved in an S shape to wind to the bottom of the garden. I have some slate stepping stones, which are approximately 30 inches by 20 inches and are of a decent weight. I planned to lay these along the path with some very fine aggregate filling the gaps in between.
Reading the info on the site, it seems the best way to lay the fine aggregate is to dig the path down, lay some hardocore down and compact it, then lay the fine gravel on top.
That all makes sense, and I have already dug the path down to required depth, and edged it with some log roll. but now I'm having trouble. How to I fix the slate stepping stones down? Do I mortar them on top of the hardcore? Do I mortar them down first directly onto the soil, then fill with hardcore around them?
Sorry if these questions are a little dumb, but I can't seem to find the answers anywhere. I don't want to lay it all down and have moving stones. They are fairly heavy, but probably not heavy enough to not move with a bit of weight on them.
Any advice is most welcome.
Thanks in advance
