Hi folks,
Looking for some advice for laying a new path (providing wheelchair access) and the exist. slopes at either end of the path are heading in different directions. The fall on the exist. slopes is about 75mm across 2 flags (1200mm) ie. the width of the new path.

So..whilst the new path will be falling approx. 300mm top to bottom, it also needs to fall about 75mm right-left at the top and 75mm left-right at the bottom, resulting in a kind of twisting effect along the length of the path.

Any suggestions for tackling this? I've attached a pic of what I'm proposing to do.

Cheers,

John

Hi

Can't see your attached photo ?

But it sounds like you need to diagonal cut some flags to achieve the desired rise and falls, although a photo would help to confirm this.

Cheers Darren, so in effect I could end up with a couple of 'diamond' shapes along the path, possibly in contrasting stone...with a ridge across the diagonal of the cut slabs...

If you need to diagonally-cut flagstones to suit the falls, then you're using the wrong type of paving. Smaller paving units, maybe 300x300mm flags or even block paving, would be more suitable for such a scenario.

i cant see the problem here, there really is no need for cuts
just use a line top and bottom and flag away
we normally use tactile slabs for wheelchair access, and you may need a low level handrail if its for public use

Been a while since I posted this...but the project is now almost done. Managed to get the falls to work with just 1 diamond in the end, took slightly longer than anticipated due to an exist. conc. footing running along the length of the path....but most important thing is that 'The Nan' is pleased :)
Ta for the advice.
J.
