About 4 months ago I had a new patio laid in the garden and it looks lovely. Recently we have had an infestation of ants in the back garden which have now decided to camp out in our kitchen.
My wife decided to pour Jeyes fluid along the whole width of the back of the house to try to stop them coming in. When I came home from work I looked and thought thatâ€™s going to stain the patio.
So immediately I got the hose out and washed the Jeyes fluid away and my fears came true my lovely new patio is now stained/discoloured. I tried a jet wash to clean it but it will not shift the shift it.
I am considering Patio cleaner or getting the builder to replace the stones that are discoloured.
Do you think it will be possible to clean or should I cut my losses and get the builder to replace them?
The stone were a light yellow colour and have now gone a sort of greyish colour.
Any help you can offer would be appreciated.

what slabs/flags are they?
natural stone or concrete?
my missus has a phobia about ants,personally i couldnt care less about them

Finally took some pictures before it rained.

The picture of the slabs can be seen at the url below. You will see that they were a light yellow colour and now they are light grey where the jeyes fluid was.

look like saxon buff,and it looks like the jeyes has taken the colour out of them,roger might know how to remedy this unfortunate situation

I'm not so sure that the flags are definitely Saxons; it could be an issue with the photo or the light in which it was taken, but the colour doesn't look like the normal buff produced by Marshalls. It's obviously a shot-textured flag, but I suspect it's one of those supplied by the DIY sheds.

Anyway, that is of little consequence to the discolouration. I'm surprised to see that Jeyes Fluid has caused this, as it is essentially a solution of tars, oils and waxes, which don't normally affect coloured concrete. Was the JF applied 'neat'? Was anything else used with it?

One thing is certain; use of an acid-based "patio cleaner" (sic) is more likely to do additional damage to both the surface and the colour of the flags, rather than remove the existing problem. I'd suggest hot soapy water - that often shifts minor oil/tar stains of this nature.
