Marshalls sawn sandstone - or lookalike...

Hi everyone,

I'm completely new to the patio game but we've decided to upgrade the one which came with our house and really like the look of Marshalls' sawn sandstone in the Howarth Moor range (ie sawn on all 6 sides). However, in the Jewson catalogue it seems to work out at about £55/m2, excluding VAT and delivery!

Does anyone know where I might be able to find the same product at a less exorbitant rate, or another product which will look similar? I am based in SE London.

Any help would be hugely appreciated,

PS Love this site! Have already spent far too long on it this morning, learning how patios are built, even though I won't be doing that myself!!

are you laying it yourself kate?
no disrespect ,but laying high end products like this, is not really a DIY job
FWIW delivery should be included and VAT should be included in prices to non business users
i would get a quote from 3 local firms preferably people recommended for their quality work rather than cheapness,you could even go for the marshalls approved contractor route ,although personal recommendation is best.
what you see in a catalogue is "list" price,AFAIK no-one pays this except lunatics and ne'er do wells
most punters would get 5-10% off this and builders 10-20% depending on their volumes

Stonemarket Horizon is sawn all over and is about £35-40/sq.m depending on quantity and sizes.

God, no, I won't be doing this myself (terrible for the fingernails I imagine, not to mention my back!!). Definitely leaving it to the professionals. I am having Dave, my local friendly builder come to give me a quote on Saturday morning.

I just wasn't sure how easily Dave would be able to get the type of product we were after - I haven't been able to find the Haworth Moor sawn stuff advertised on the websites of many supply companies so wanted to do as much research as I could to find the most reasonable supplier of these flags rather that him not being able to get it, or not being able to get it at a reasonable price.

Thanks, Rich, for the pointer to the Horizon sandstone, which looks good. Any thoughts on where's a good value supplier of these products in the SE?

No disrespect to Dave your local friendly builder but does he have much experience with paving?
I'm hear to learn so can't give advice but there may be more to it then pulling up the old patio and putting a new one down in its place. To save any misunderstandings it may be worth having a read up first so you can discuss with Dave what construction methods should be used.

I'm told that Dave does patios regularly, and he's done other work for me promptly and to a high standard, so I'm keen to use him if I can. But you're right that it is worth preparing and luckily this site is just the trick! I find it strangely addictive....

Hi Kate,

It depends on where you are in the South East. I use Gardenscape Supplies (two depots in Reading) for Stonemarket products. Dave should get a trade price if he buys it for you.

Products like this are high end and aren't stocked by many retailers or builders' merchants, so they'll probably have to order it in for you. I had to wait two weeks for the 6 crates of Horizon.

Careful Kate, you could end up like the rest of us - always got one eye on the pavement - checkin' out the good & the bad - espec on hols abroad - your friends & family will think you've finally gone potty.....good fun tho. :laugh:
