Ive got a 25m2 patio laid using marshalls chancery riven flags. They have been laid in a random pattern with full mortar joints. Their is a soildier course of charcoal blocks around the edge, and a small retaining wall onto the lawn.

I have cleaned the surface with a low pressure rotary cleaner, that is done every spring, but the mortar joints are tired and need ripping out and re pointing.

Also the retaining wall, it has a header course of red engineering brick to match the bricks below the damp proof course on the house, but every year more faces of the brick fall off. I replaced defect bricks and last year sealed the bricks as i thought it might have been frost damage.

what i have noticed is that in college when we were building retaining walls was that to enable water from a higher gound level to the patio level to drain, you would place tubes or pipe through the wall and backfill behind the wall with gravel and then soil and turf etc. But this wasnt done when the wall was installed and im wondering if the water from the lawn is sitting there over winter and freezing and thawing etc.

So just checking how much would it normally cost to repoint the patio and replace the whole header course approx 100 bricks.

Thanks
