Not seen this before but The Boss quite likes it and wants me to lay it over an area of about 100 SqM.
Slabs are 600 square, decking 150 wide doubled up.
Not sure thickness of deck or slabs, obviously much easier if they are the same (35mm ?).
What problems with this ? Obviously it's going to be porus so couldn't put it on a non porus surface (I guess decking would float away). Any other issues ?
This has just been layed in a new paving demo area at Webbs Garden Centre near Droitwich.

i imagine the slabs are glued or summat onto a backing of ply under the decking
obviously they cannot be bedded
looks ok, lot of accurate chop saw cuts needed
labour intensive i would say

With my cross cut/ bevel mitre saw this would be a piece of pish, all the cuts are the same, all the timber lengths are the same, so whats the problem? I would biscuit joint the timber joins as well, lay the lot over compacted sand with geotextile layer. Frame the lot in deckboard edging. Long old day though for 100sq metres methinks:D

cant see the point of that. as LLL says labour intensive, also be expensive i would think. ???

They've just put it in at Gardenscape in Reading.
The decking is pre-cut and the slabs aren't fixed. Looks like something of nothing to me.

Looks ok whilst new, but would like to see how it copes with expansion/contraction throughout the year ?
Overall I'm not convinced and if the flags aren't fixed you just know their going to start rattling or cluncking under foot given a little time !

They had exactly this 'feature' at Glee last year. That was a three-day show model, but I think the flags and <spit> decking would both need to be fixed for long-term use.

My thrupence would be .Normal deckframe sheeted with 20mm+ marine ply. Screw the wood to the ply and TECH7 the flags. The silicone would absorb the movement of the wood and hold the flag securely. Maybe strategic drill holes for water to get away. If the slabs are different thickness to wood use thin ply as packing. Even if this is a kit 100m2 would be shaggin pricey and a nightmare to maintain.

It does actually look better than in photo, slab colour is wrong, have been experimenting on site, it goes nicely with a slab the colour of Marshalls Saxon, however, as has been said, how do you lay it ? I've only seen it mocked up in a garden centre.
If you lay it with a slab-style base (sand) and it then gets wet the decking will float away ! Even if not those short deck length could kick up - you can't screw in to sand.
If you build the base like decking it's loads of work and if you use ply (apart from cost) how would you then drain it ?
No point having a fall as water will go between slab and deck.

I would like has been said build a 100x50 frame, deck with ply and drill some drainage holes where your gaps are.
I cant see any more long term solid soltuions to be honest.
Are you buying them as tiles? or making them up youself?

wish i had .. too long days at the moment with early starts but better than the start of the year which was dire. saw something very similar to this at a country manor bash, it was laid on plastic tracking over a huge lawn. Oh to have such money to waste on such frivolities :;): cant wait for sunday I,ve a whole day to do work at home

Would imagine they have been 5 spot laid on a flexible grout to save on the weight and help with the drainage.
