Hi hope this is the right place to post this.

I have a single driveway at preasent and a 4.5m x 5m lawn area right next to it, what I would like to do is extend my current narrow driveway out and get rid of the lawn.
What I would like to know is..
1. Do I have to ask anyones permission or for planning to dig up the lawn and replace with a hard surface to park on it?

2. what surface would you suggest using for this size area i.e concrete tarmac etc?

Money is an issue as always so would really like to know the cheapest and most hardwaring, but also is there an easy (cheap) surface I could put down myslef by doing it DIY with some friends to save on getting someone in?

Sorry I am totally clueless ??? and on my own here and have no clue where to start with is.

You don't need permissiojn as long as it is your property. If it's rented, then you need to clear it with your landlord/council/whatever.

Best surface? Start by reading the main website.

Hi Thanks for the relpy, yes I own the property but it is a semi so share the front lawn with next door, although there is a huge hedge dividing the two halfs.
I have looked thorugh the main site but I found all the options confusing to be honest just really wanted someone in the "know" to tell which was the cheapest for the size of plot I have and which would be easiest for me to put down. I was thinking patio slabs but I have no idea if they are good enough to use to park on. I may have to look in the yellow pages after all and pay someone.

Trouble is Marie - there isn't a simple answer it depends on far too many variables. Whatever you decide you will have to dig up the lawn and lay a proper foundation.

Why not get a couple of quotes to give you some idea?

Have you thought of asking your neighbour if they want to do theirs as well? Twice the area would be nowhere near twice the price.
