Firstly, what a fantastic website. I would appreciate any advice that can be offered. In the very near future, I will be extending part of a patio. The patio currrently runs the width of the house and extends out by 6'. I want to extend this by another 6' out and only 8' wide. The problem that I have is deciding where to have the water run off. The slabs which are currently down, do not appear to have any run off. according to the spirit level, they are perfectly straight, yet no water accumulates. To the side of the patio is a fence and the paving slabs face out onto the garden. If I have the run off towards the fence, as the slabs drop, to allow runoff, they will be below the level of the current paving slabs and will look out of place. My idea is to have the run off towards the garden. However, the turf is slightly higher than the paving slabs and I am concerned that in heavy rain, water may accumulate. Would this happen? One possible suggestion is to dig a trench in the garden, by the slabs and make this into a small soakaway. I would be grateful if anyone has any further advice to offer.
