Hi, I am a new member and I think the site is great.
I have a problem with concrete antique paving slabs.
They are great in appearance and very solid, but when they are wet they become very slippery (my wife just slipped and suffered a head injury, very frightening!).
Is there a suitable coating that will not change the appearance but will make them safer?

You can improve traction by applying a good quality sealant and then sprinkling Rhino-Grip or similar over the sealant while it is still fresh and tacky.

It won't make them slip-proof, but it will improve the traction slightly.

Hi Lionel

Welcome to the forum !

Have you tried pressure washing them ?

I have just had a job cleaning 50 sq/m of Yorkstone flags, they were fine when dry and didn't even look dirty, but as soon as they were wet they were like walking on sheet ice, after pressure washing them they are grippy even when wet now !

Maybe worth a try ?

Darren

Hi all,

Thank you for your help, especially Darren.

I have used the pressure washer on the first 15 foot section and it has worked a treat.

I wouldn't have believed that there is such a differance after pressuse washing than just a hose and brush.

I will now continue the mamouth task with the knowledge that it is worth the effort.

Great help.

Many thanks

Lionel
