This site seems to imply that its ok to part fill deep joints with a grit of some sort and then top it with the rompox (cause it aint cheap right...)
I have pretty deep joints in some places so im pretty tempted to do this. But before i do i thought id double check this is ok!
Dont worry i wont be mxing it with the rompox and weakening the stuff. Just want to half fill the 1-2 inch joints first then put the rompox ontop.

Well it does say for joints "from 30ml deep". so if they are deeper then i would of thought a cement bound material could be used to bring it up to that level.

im sure the compond will work for the joint at its current depth, but its costly. So id rather half fill it with some tightly packed gravel or something to half depth, say 15mm then fill the remainder with Rompox...what do you reckon?

As the man says" suck it and see". if it holds all well and good, if it fails then you've only yourself to blame. far be it from me to go against manufacturers instructions. it may well turn out to be false economy in the long run.

The semi-official guidance for most resin polymerics is that you need a minimum of 225mm depth for them to have any chance of holding together.

I worked on that principle, ive given them a good inch at the top of the join, and filled with some dry all in and cement mixture below that. Its only in one or two places that ive done this cause it was so deep by the house - it had to be to get the levels right. If it goes wrong it wont take much effort to sort it out.
I reckon it will work though, its well compacted in the joint. I will let you know in teh future if it comes apart tho.

No brandy, LLL, just uncontrollable fingers. I've been working on computers since my ZX spec back in 1980 and I *still* can't bloody type with more than 2 fingers!
The medicos have ordered me off the vino collapso while they experiment on me with a new tablet. I have to go out to posh awards dinner tomorrow night (dickie bow and all that) and no booze to numb the pain. Sometimes, life is terribly cruel!

are you sure it was me boss? or was it sean?? lol
mebbe the tablets have kicked in
plus the speccy come out in 1982,remember jet set willy??
i started off with a zx81, big 3.2mhz processor and 16 kb rom hard drive,i remember sitting in the bedroom begging my mum and dad not to make a noise cos it would crash as you loaded stuff on it from a tape recorder
those were the days.......

I've topped up with pea gravel and brushed Romex in on top. It's worked fine.
Make sure whatever you are putting in the joints under the Romex is compacted in. Leave at least over 2.5cm for the depth of the Romex.

Romex have a new product, Romex Deco, which is specifically designed for binding gravel. I'll put some info on the site later this week.
LLL - just realised what you mean: I wrote ZX spec, meaning "ZX specification", not the "Speccy", which, if memory serves me right, was a Commodore machine. I remember helping my s-i-l buy one for my nephew in 83/84 (???) and I think it cost around 180 quid at the time!!
