Hi - laying my first patio this week and next but am unsure about using a 1:10 morat mix for the bedding layer and the pointing. Not keen on using too strong a cement/mortar. Will the slabs be secure enough with this light mix?

Best to read the main site. 10:1 sharp sand:cement is ok for the bedding but the pointing needs to be much stronger

thanks - afraid you would say that. If I use a 1:6 dry mix for the pointing so I can brush it in, would that be a secure enough hold for the slabs?

For brushing in you use a dry mix in the ratio of 4:1. I really would recommend reading the links in my last post!

I would never brush-in as a professional, mainly because I don't want to have to go back for any reason other than to do extra work because my client is pleased with the work I did before!

If a job's worth doing....

Thanks. I will use the 1:10 mix on the bedding layer and go with the stronger wet mix on the pointing.

using a 1:10 morat mix f

is that a Kazakhstan mix?
as rich says brushed in dry mix is worthless for pointing
have you considered gftk or romex for the pointing?
pretty much idiot proof and you can brush them in?

cheers LLL :)
