I'm a complete novice & slightly confused as this website suggests that that preferred method for Screeding a bedding layer is Pre-compacted: Screeding a Bedding Layer

However, the "Semi-dry bedding mixes" section on Mortars & Concretes page does not have any mention of compaction after the mix has been bedded.

My question therefore being, if i use a semi-dry mix for my patio, do i still need to have it compacted or not ? Please advise, Thanx.

you compact the subbase, but not the bedding layer
so you compact your 100mm type 1,then screed your bedding layer on to that

Thanx 4 that LLL. Well that makes life a lot easier & cheaper as i only have to rent the wacker plate for a day. But will i still need a concrete mixer ? I've got 58m2 to slab. aslo edging-curb or not 2 curb, that is another question.

Screeding is used with paving of a regular thickness.

Partial pre-compaction is used with flexible bedding (sand/grit/whin) used beneath small element paving (small flags and blocks).

Mortar or cementitious bedding is rigid, and although it CAN be screeded it is NOT pre-compacted, as the compaction takes place when the paving is installed.
