I am a total newcomer to the realm of do-it-yourself. Can someone please tell me if I have to remove the grass before laying down tiles for my patio? If I don't do it, what problems could I encounter?

You need to take a few hours to read all the relevant information on the main site. Only then you will have the knowledge to decide what exactly you want to do with your patio.
