Hi all,

My patio is 18 months old now and needs its first real clean (only been hosed down/brushed to date).

Just want to confirm that the best way to clean an indian sandstone patio is clean water and a 50% household bleach mix?

I know its bad to use off the shelf acid based cleaners due to staining, but just wanted to check with the experts. I realise this question has been asked lots of times before, but cannot find many posts in the search for some reason.

Cheers :)

Thanks for the reply LLL :)

No I didn't seal it when new. I'd seen a few sealed jobs and most looked too "shiny" for my liking so I just left the stone as is. To be honest the patio doesn't get a lot of use, just light foot traffic plus the good old North East rain and weather on it.

18 months down the line and its in need of a clean and is a bit dirty/dark in places. I've never even pressure washed it yet, just a good old hose and stiff yard brush a couple of times a year.

I suppose I can try a normal pressure washer first and see how I do. If it still looks dirty I can post back for further advice.

Cheers :;):

Try the water and bleach first. If that doesn't give you the desired result, a power washer can be used, but take care not to danage the jointing.
