Have worked this out on graph paper ie a 3 size stretcher bond using 900*600 600*600 and 600*450 sandstone or slate slabs ( not mixed together ) and to me it looks like it will look ok. (Obviously no 4 corners would meet)
Now I know it is subjective,etc but I would value other opinions on wether this would look any good.

I am asking alot here. There is no file, I was kind of wondering if anyone had done or seen a paving layout like this before, or could even visualize it in ther heads from experience.
The paving would be aprox. 1.6m wide going around the rear outrigger on a victorian terraced house, so it would be in the shape of a "U". Coming off the bottom of the "U" would be a path leading to a gate.

if you look on the main site the bossman provides a service for doing layouts on random designs for a small fee

I did a stretcher bond area with 600x450 of about 4 x 8m just recently to double the size of an existing terrace. It looked fine. Unusual but pretty neat and tidy. It was with formed slabs though so the 'bond' and pointing gap were even throughout. Not sure how well it would have worked with split natural stone where the dimensions vary. You should be alright with slate though as it's usually sawn.
I'd go with 1.8m rather than 1.6m w though!

How can you have a 3 size stretcher bond? Stretcher bond only uses one size. You could have a 3 size broken bond, but without a drawing or photo, no-one can realistically comment.

Thanks for the comments.
I've already ordered the sandstone so will have to suck it and see.
It seems like no one is horrified and saying this type of broken bond pattern ( thanks Tony ) never works, and its good to know this pattern has a name and exists and is not something I've created in my head.

This tool is fantastic I can't recommend it enough. Just draw your area and pick oout tour sizes and it will create a random patio for you. It looks fantastic I used it for 30m2 of sandstone and am very impressed.

yeah i tried that for a 18m2 patio and it had well over a dozen areas where the 4 corners met, and had long long lines running a few times
