Hello just to continue from the travertine post...
the customer is has asked for a pond and i am going to construct it from breeze blocks and face it with travertine paving...!
what is the best way to add the paving so it stays in place..do i use a normal mortar mix ? or do you recommend anything else guys ? thanks in advance

whats going to happen when all the water leaks out?
you need some kind of liner or impervious layer in a pond,
breeze blocks are NOT suitable for underground construction,concrete blocks minimum or engineering bricks class *A*
plus travertine in a pond??
this most porous of stone,cant see it lasting
anyone else done it?

im using a pond liner.....lol ..im not that stupid !!
all i need to know is mortar ok to seal paving to side walls (outer)

I would render it the normal way with a scratch coat then a finish coat. Once that's gone off find a tile adhesive suitable for exterior use. I think there is a combined adhesive/grouting mix for this. Finally, it will need a good sealant over the whole thing.

Everyone has their favourite mix. Personally, I like 2 parts building sand to 2 parts washed LB to 1 part OPC made up with water and plasticiser. I know some who like to add in some sharp as well. Given that you're going to tile it, you could just use sloppy mortar.
