We've got a loose flag on the top step leading up to our back door.

I'm planning to remove the flag, clean up the mortar and then mix a batch of Class II (a la Tony's 'Step Page') and re-set it.

Question:

When I clean up the old mortar from the flag tread and brick risers, is there anything else I need to do before aply the new stuff (e.g. dampen it down or add PVA or other procedure) that will make it adhere better?

Many thanks

Ian

Remove old mortar

Dampen existing risers and allow to dry for around an hour

Prime with PVA or, preferably SBR/Ronafix before bedding new tread

Thanks Tony.

I'm assuming that I'll need to dilute the PVA down a bit. 1:5 PVA:water?
