hi guys, i posted a post in the power tools sections about this so i hope im not breaking any rules by repeating the question in here. Im just wondering what the best way to strip the turf off my lawn is? Ive been doing work for a friend recently and using a turf cutter, but it just doesnt seem up to the job especially as my garden is quite uneven , has anyone had any experience of removing turf with a mini digger/ or any other type of plant and if so what type of results did you achieve ??

PS by the way my garden is 80ft by 30ft so dont fancy the manual option

If you've got digger experience it's certainly the quickest and easiest option, especially if you can get some barrowers to load and cart out the turf straight off.
Turf strippers are fine if you get one with a good sharp blade and you set the depth right. If the lawn is really mossy and weedy though it does tend to break up. Should only take about 3 hours to do the lot, with one man on the machine and one carting out.

my auld fella had some landscapers in to re-turf his lawn last week ,anyway their scarifier wouldnt touch it, the clay is baked that hard so they said "bye bye see you in september"

Best way of removing turf? A dog, a pair of rabbits, or a JCB!
Incidentally, my younger daughter's latest scheme to bankrupt her owld fella and give him another coronary is now into its third generation and it's costing me 30 quid a week for bloody rabbit food. The childlike Mrs Taz is currently feeding them Tesco's Finest Peeled Sprouts and Italian Bistro Salad Selection, while all I get is tinned carrots with frozen chips and some sort of indeterminate pie ... they say Rabbit tastes a bit like Chicken.... :p
Back to the turf. Unless you have a manicured lawn on lovely loamy soil, those turf strippers are crap. Use a mattock and spade, or go for the subtle mini-digger-with-ditching-bucket approach.

could be worse guv, she could have those giant rabbits from east germany ,see here for details
i reckon a couple of those beauts and you would be on skid row in 6 months
