Hello all, first timer on this very professional site. hope someone can advise me. I am planning to lay as a path some 40 mm flags with a 100mm gravel border around them. They will be laid between an edging (probably haunched ropetop) and the house wall. Having read through the site I see that I can lay the slabs on a 10:1 dry mix but am unsure if the gravel can go on the same?If it can then fine as I can screed the bedding as i'll have two nice levels to work to.Or do I do the slabs one way and the gravel another? Whichever way how would the area then drain? Am I missing something obvious? thanks in advance.

Flags will be independent , there will be an edging on both sides(house wall and ropetop) I was going to have a 100mm gravel border round each slab, so you are recommending a wet bed for the slabs? The slabs are 900X600 so is dry mix totally out of question? and what base for the gravel? Will the base for the gravel accommodate the drainage? Thanks for your time.

well with such large slabs you may be ok if the ,but i would be tempted to use a wet bed with ronafix or such mixed in for greater adhesion
the gravel if say it is 10 mm gravel should be only 25 mm thick so you may need to add some bigger aggregate or MOT type 1 stone to raise it up a bit
cant really advise on the drainage without a picture
cheers LLL

Thanks LLL , can you tell i'm new at this yet ? Can't do a picture as it is still only in my head! If I were to wet bed the flags on to a type 1 sub base and then do as you suggest with the gravel would the gravel/type 1 be o.k for the drainage i.e. filter down through the gravel and type 1? It wouldn't be a huge area to be fair probably 7-8 linear sq metres. Your comments welcome, cheers

A 3 dimensional being can view a 3 dimensional world, but not with awareness. To be aware and perceive a 3 dimensional world we need to be 4 dimensional creatures. But we cannot be aware of our awareness of the 3 dimensional world with only 4 dimensions
You're entitled to the work, not the reward.
