looking ahead to when i'm laying my flags ( Natural Eastern Limestone) which is going to be laid on a semi wet mix as per this site. I was intending to butter the joints then point with sand cement mortar however ive seen in my suppliers brochure ( Ruscrete, Totton, Southampton) that they also supply Romex jointing mortar.I've read the reviews and Tony's comments but what i'd like to know is if i were to use Romex should i still 'butter' the joints as it seems that that would cancel out the 'permeable' nature of the Romex, or lay the flags without buttering leaving a suficient gap for the pointing.

Or should i take the cheaper but more time consuming sand / cement avenue.

If you use Romex you can omit the buttering.
