Hi I wonder if someone can help?

We have been getting quotes for some slab laying/aggregate laying. We currently have a large pathway of grey 3x2 concrete slabs. We would like to lift all of these, pave 1/3 of it and cover the remainder with aggregate. The guy we've been speaking to says it's just as effective to lay the slabs over the existing concete slabs (fair enough perhaps) and , cover the existing concrete slabs with the aggregate. Is this possible/recommended??? What kind of problems would this pose? Don't we need some kind of base upon which to lay the aggregate. Any advice very much required - we don't have a clue.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi, I should have added, we want the aggregate to be loose, as opposed to embedded into a layer of concrete - we are looking for a 2 inch depth or thereabouts.

It's only for the pathway around the house, as opposed to the path leading from the doorstep to the street.

Thank you.

Thanks very much for your response. In short then I guess he shouldn't be suggesting this as a solution. I think he suggested it to save us money, but as you may see from my other post, I don't even know if his prices are reasonable to begin with.

Thanks again, most appreciated.

i'll get crucified for saying this, but i have done gravel over concrete (i work for money IYKWIM) and it is ok, not great, but works jsut about, obviously its better to do it on a flexi base but cost can become an issue,as people do NOT like paying for things they cannot see
