I want a dance floorall, - Smooth outside surfaces

All,

Sad isn't it, but me and the wife want to jive on our patio. Since I have a local contractor going to do it anyway I want to put a 3m X 3m smooth square in the middle.

Maybe something a bit like marble. I just can't seem to identify on the web any place local to Uxbridge or Slough where I can go and look at such slabs, or even where to buy them online.

Any ideas anyone?

igot some marble like flags from the builder centre. too smooth would be a bit dodgy in the wet if you have kids.

Can it ever be too smooth when you're dancing cheek to cheek in the moonlight on a patio you built yourself? - marble sounds great.

youve obviously never been in a @ e with a kid who smashed the back of his head in. you can get a marble effect non slip and still jive by the moonlight. sounds good to me. if music be the food of love.....play on

10mm granite tiles can be laid nice and smooth,although i can vouch for what sean said regarding kids going A over T when running about on them

Why not just put some concrete down?

If you hand finish it with magnesium floats and steel trowels it will be pretty smooth. You can add some colour to the mix if you don't want a grey floor or you can acid stain (http://www.picsuk.com/stain.htm) it and create a marble-like effect.

You could also engrave it (see link above) and make a feature out of it...

If you want it really smooth you can also polish the concrete.

I'm with Bob hughes on this, Travertine will give the appearance you want, but won't be too slippery when wet.

Just don't be surprised to pay in the region of £45.00/mtr for outdoor grade.

If i was you i woudn't go anywhere near travertine with a barge pole. When its wet and greens up a tad its like a skating ring!!

Perhaps something like natural lime-stone (Black or blue) and a lot cheaper than travertine. With the limestone you can also purchase large slabs 560x1100.

Why not put a blanket on the floor, forget the dancing, and have a nice cuddle.
