I bought some of these in antique Gold. 142 slabs in total of various sizes. When I bought them I did comment within earshot of one of the staff that when they were delivered they would be sepearted by spacers so they don't rub together. When we discussed delivery they even said it would be by lorry with one of those lifting arms.

Yesterday they were delivered. I wasn't home at the time but I was told they were stacked on top of each other (horizontally) on the lorry and they lifted them off one by one and stacked them in my driveway. Small slabs at the bottom of course.

As they are Riven when you stack them face to face you need a spacer so they don't rub against eachother and become damaged. 142 slabs and not a spacer in sight. Several of them are stacked face to back anyway. Out of 15 slabs I have checked 12 are in my opinion damaged with either scratched or chipped surfaces

I paid by credit card.

If they take them back and change them I want them delivered properly, with spacers, as I have to move them to the back of the house and stack them again.

I called them this morning and explained the problem. They told me the way they stacked them would be fine. I explained that they had obviously rubbed against eachother and scratched the surface leaving a dust and lots of marks. They look pants

I was told that was normal and that once laid and cleaned they would be fine. I told them that out of 15 I looked at I wouldn't lay 12 of them.

I was then told they would speak to the boss and call me back. I didn't get a call back.

Am I being over critial? Where the slabs have rub together I've taken a dry brush to so I can dust it off and it looks marked to me.

Some of the slabs also have small concrete marks on them also, looking as if they are previous returns.

Advise would be appreciated.

whenever i buy flags in luton they are always delivered with a little plastic spacer in between the face sides like this

i know exactly what you are talking about though and TBH its the muppets that load the stuff(not all, are but a good percentage dont give a flying f**k about the goods)
i am pretty sure that under the sale of goods and services act , that anything you buy has to be fit for the purpose its intended,so if they are scratched send them back,and if they dont want to play ball contact your credit card issuer and tell them about it,when someone's merchant status is threatened,they can suddenly be very helpful,also its not a good sign that they have got cement splashes on them
what merchant was it?

This is the problem with getting builders' merchants to deliver - they deliver the crap that no one buys who comes in the shop. Timber is the worst stuff to get delivered as you are guaranteed to get "bananas" rather than straight timber. And then you get delivery problems. Once I came to a job and saw the idiot driver had stacked three bulk bags on top of each other on a public pavement!

IME slabs always come with spacers. I don't know why yours don't. Buut you don't need the spacers to restack your slabs in your back yard IME. You should be able to get a refund. After all you are only talking about 10% of the 142 you bought.

Timber is the worst stuff to get delivered as you are guaranteed to get "bananas"

It's not just 10%. I have only checked 15 of them, 12 of the IMHO damaged.

I haven't checked the rest nor moved them in case they blame me for the damage. I have 18 off 600x300 and everyone of them is stacked face to back.

Well an update for you.

The place I bought them were helpful once I got to speak to the owner.

Upon checking more of them I was less than happy and wanted to reject the lot. It was arranged that a rep from the manufacturer would come and see me.

The rep said that about 15 of the slabs were faulty and this was due to the colouring. The rest were fine. He told me they were only transported with spacers if you bought a full pallet.

Days later I went to the place I had bought them. He was willing to exchange them so I went for a different slab, when delivered I was happy with them.

So all is well. All laid now awaiting pointing..... question is wet oir dry? lol

wait for a dry spell.tough at this time of year i know.
and point with a semi wet mix,using a bwk jointing iron
dry pointing will let you down

At the moment we are blessed with decent weather so I started the pointing (covering at night to protect from frost).

:p What a shit job!! Takes ages to do! Hope to finish soon as I want the pointing finished before Winter sets in. The rest of the finishing touches can wait until spring.

Certainly got a lot colder at 3.30pm onwards down here in Somerset as the fog rolled in.

You wimp! You're used to working outside but I'm used to working in a nice warm office :p Cold but not too cold.
