Hello,

Basically I have 100sqr meters of indian sandstone paving laid as a patio area(foot traffic only), and it has not been pointed to date with the view to using a resin based brush-in product, such as Romex-Rompox, Sika-Pave Fix, Geofix(not after reading the comments) or an alternative such as Easipoint. All the paving itself has been laid on a bed of hardcore, sand and thick full mortar bed due to the underlying ground.

Now the time to point has arrived and having looked into the different systems, a few questions have arisen that I cannot readily see the answers to in this forum.

1) Of all the products available is the Romex range still the most suitable, and if so which of Rompox Easy and Rompox Patio is best? In terms of durability, time to complete etc?

2) All of these resin products I have seen are described as being highly water permeable, what is the advantage to this? Our paving has been laid with a slope (1:60-1:100) towards existing drains linked to distant soakaways. And the aim is for all surface and rainwater to follow this route, and not to seep into the ground under the paving, especially when it rains. So is a product described as water permeable not the best option for this situation, or will it not be a problem when it rains as the water will have run off before significant amounts are absorbed. Also does this water permeable nature lead to dirt staining of the Romex product, as dirty water is absorbed into the Romex.

3) I have seen with the Geofix that it does not bond to the actual paving slabs, only itself, is this also the case with the Romex products. I only ask, as in places we do not have the required joint dimensions where the bedding mortar has risen to partly fill the joints, so if not bonded to the paving itself will this make the joins weaker? Would we need to scrape/remove excess mortar to generate the required joint dimensions?

4) Finally is the product best just brushed in or brushed in and then compacted? And how long does the product remain workable before it starts to set?

5) Have there been any problems with permenant resin staining on the flags or does any resin residue soon weather away?

Thanks in advance for any opinions andother advice you have to offer.

IMHO ross point it in with sand and cement and 5 years down the line you will be happy.i tried the sika product , and that was no good either,
at least sand and cement is a tried and trusted route
problem with permeable pointing is that dirt and seeds can also permeate into the holes and then it looks pants
nice patio with correct falls ===> get the water into the drains===>job done
cheers LLL :)
