I have just uncovered some very old (probably 200 yr) pennant stone slabs under my kitchen floor. they have been covered with a self leveling compound, which I have mostly removed.

How can I clean these back to their original state? Any help would be greatly recieved.

Many thanks

try hydrochloric acid ,but only do a small section first and see what that looks like,if its got self levelling on it it will be tough to remove
also bear in mind that there is probably no damp membrane under the flags
