As advised, I must leave at least a six-inch gap from the top of the slab and the damp proof coarse. Doing this would leave too large a step into and out of the conservatory and I fear that when returning somewhat absence minded from sampling my home brew in the shed, negotiating or not may prove a little hazardous.
So I’m thinking maybe if I build to within three inches below the damp proof coarse and leave a gap of 3-4 inches from the edge of the slab and the dwarf wall and the fill the 8 inch deep gap with decorative stone to the level of the slab would this be ok.

Cheers

You can build a step that's flush with the threshold, if you want. Do a search for steps using the button up there top right - there's a drawing somewhere showing a basic construction.
