We want to put a large are of patio around 2 sides of our house (nearly finished the house) However our contractor is very unhappy about doing it because the ground has been "made up" (increased in level) round those sides and he thinks patio will sink into the mud. He keeps suggesting decking as that can be built off piers....though my wifes comment was "no smegging decking" we are being kind of railroaded down that path as we dont want to wait 12 months for the ground to find its own level again.
Any suggestions for dealing with this or are we stuck with the satan of groundforce. ???

Regardless of how much the ground has been made up, there are ways and means of ensuring it will be sufficiently stable to support a proper patio. What you need is a proper contractor, and not some decking-obsessed eejit that wants to install what's most convenient for them, and not what best suits the client.

Ask at least three more contractors to take a look.
