Concrete patio? - Patio

Patio flagstones (slabs), concrete flags, stone flags including yorkstone and imported flagstones.

I currently have a 15 x 15 concrete patio I'd like to spice up. I'd like to avoid digging up the concrete, so my question is this: is it possible to lay slate tiles on top of the concrete? Will I need to add a thin layer of sand (base) on top of the concrete first? Any other suggesions appreciated?
