Season greetings to all who have helped us hapless souls throughout this year.
Easi Point - Does exactly what it says on the tin. Having spoke to the fountain of knowledge AKA Arthur, he guided me through the process of pointing 22 sq meters of paving even calculating how many bags of mix I would need, as it worked out it was to the last inch. As has said before, the secret is in the mixing - get that right and the jobs a goodun. As you get used to applying it through the rather large mastic type gun all you need to do is lightly use a pointing tool to smooth off for a perfect joint.
The only critisim I have is the plastic tube that comes with the gun, especially the over size bit with the nozzle on, mine snapped within 5 mins of using it, but as the mix was mixed, the duck tape came out and repaired in no time. I feel this is the area that could be further developed, maybe look at some of the similar tools used in the automotive industry.
All in all the job took me 6 hrs from start to finish and a proffesional job indeed it does look.
Credit where credits due in this day and age of gizzmos claiming to halve the time and end up trebling it.
Thanks to all the staff at easipoint for their help in this project.

Kind Regards

Jack (John)

On the subject of pointing systems, I met a couple of weeks ago with Iain Peter from Fibre Technologies in Bristol to look at concrete spraying systems. In the course of various demonstrations he showed me a mortar pump which is used for pointing. It's interesting because it fills from the bottom up to ensure the gap is totally filled, and had recently been used successfuly on a job where pointing depths were 3"+.

I have no idea of cost (it wasn't something I have a lot of use for) and I would imagine you'd probably have to be pointing large areas quite regularly to make it viable, but it might be worth a look.

Fibretech can be contacted on 01179 820067 or by email at info@fibretech.org

PS I'm not associated with them in any way - just passing on hopefully useful information.
