Hi, i'm wanting to pave an area that is currently tarmaced.
My question is with regards to how I need to prepare the base for the pavers. Do I need to break up and remove the tarmac to make room for a new hardcore/ coarse sand base or can I leave the tarmac, put a layer of coarse sand on top and then lay the pavers?

It would certainly be better for me to be able to lay onto the tarmac as it's going to take ages if I need to break it up! Having said that I want to do the job right so if anyone has any thoughts i'd appreciate it.

Cheers
