I've seen many of the posts concerning shoddy PIC work. Can anyone recommend any good contractors in the Yorkshire area. I've contacted some of teh major national ones and the prices don't seem too bad (£66m2), but some people have even said these national companies are also poor. Maybe I should just avoid PIC altogether?

If PIC is what you want, then go for it.
You have to look at your new driveway for a good few years, and if you settle for summat you're not 100% happy with, it will eat away at you. Every time you look at it, you'll remember that what you really wanted was PIC, and if it really starts to get to you, that's when you start considering ripping it all up and starting again when there's technically nowt wrong with what you have. It's not like a car that you can sell and buy summat else if you're not happy - a used driveway has zero value.
Can't help with recommendations, though - I'm not familiar with the PIC gangs working on that side of the Pennines.

Hi Tony,
Thanks. No it's not necessarily PIC I want. In fact I was looking at PIC a a cheap option. We've just buolt our house and we had a few problems with retaining walls etc (and hence having to take architects to court) and the budget is tight. However, after some inquiries I think I can get granite setts installed at roughly the same price as PIC, and if this is right it's no contest
