i,m having a diy go at a patio and i,ve read the guide on this website and i,m not the cleverest of blokes,so far i,ve dug down 300mm and now filled it with mot type 1 for 75mm,now i was going to wack it down with a wacker then put the 10:1 sand/cement mix down for another 50mm and then wack that down to level it.Is this ok?

As described in the main website, the type of subbase and bedding layer can differ depending on factors such as type of ground, levels required, type and size of flag stone etc.
Can you provide a bit more info about what type of patio you are creating (i.e. light foot use only or vehicular), what type of flags you are using etc?
Going from the info you've already given, I think you're doing everything right. A sub base of mot type 1 is not strictly necessary but can be used for soft areas or to raise levels etc. Any reason why you dug down 300mm if you only plan to have a 75mm subase + 50mm bedding + flag? Would this not result in your patio being about 15cm below ground level, depending on your flag thickness? A 10:1 mix sounds good for most flags for normal foot traffic, but you don't need really to wack it down with a wacker for light use patios.

Thanks for the reply I,m using Bradstone circle patio and it will be light use,the reason I dug down 300mm was I,m putting the patio next to the garage and the ground level was nearly touching the dpc so I thought I better dig down.So when I put the 10:1 mix down do I level the whole area with the 10:1mix then lay the patio?cheers

Put out the 10:1 bedding just as and when you need it. If you spread out too much in advance, it'll only start to go off and end up getting walked on to the surface of the flags.
