Hi

Thanks for a great web site...its been very useful.

I have just put down 4 tonnes of type 1 hardcore @ a thickness of 75mm-100mm, the type 1 is at a level of 75mm below the finished patio surface. My finished surface is very important as i have about 5 falls towards a gully i pre-fitted. I have spent time with pegs, levels etc to get the hardcore correct and didnt thick about the hardcore level after compacting.

How much will the level drop after being wacked down? should i skim the lot to allow for a drop or is it minimal...less than 10mm.

Thanks..

BTW...my user name was suppose to stand for Do It Myself...just noticed i'm calling myself Dim..... :p

It's impossible to say exactly how much the Type 1 will compact - there are so many variables involved. See the Screed Depth FAQ for a brief guide to why it's not an exact science.

However, it's likely that 75-100mm will compact to somewhere around 50-75mm
