I intend to lay paving slabs on a 40 mm - 10 washed sand / 1 cement bed in accordance with the advice on this site.

I would be grateful if someone would advise me whether ordinary portland cement (OPC) or masonary cement (Mastercrete) should be used for this work.

I note that there is some concern regarding slabs moving or rocking. Would a coat of PVA on the back of the slab help prevent this?

Many thanks.

Although there's nowt wrong in using Mastercrete (it contains a plasticiser) you can use OPC with impunity. For laying course material, there's no real diff between the two.

As for the PVA - waste of time. :~(
