After much hassle I received planning approval to construct a parking and turning area of indian sandstone. Having consulted your excellent site I now realise this was foolish to say the least. Persuading the relevant bods to approve another material is nigh on impossible. Is there a way this can be constructed to take the passage of a car without it breaking and collapsing instantly. We had planned on constructing this ourselves !!
please help

Lay it on at least 100mm of concrete, or on a 25mm Class II mortar bed over a 100-150mm concrete slab. Use a high-strength jointing mortar, beefed up with Ronafix/SBR.

The biggest problem you'll then have is tyre marks from the cars when they're turning. The lighter coloured imported sandstones are particularly prone to tyre marks.
