Very glad I found this great forum. I would really appreciate some expert advice on re-fixing patio flags. I recently inherited a patio laid with blue Indian sandstone flagstones. Some of the flags have come loose and the pointing is in disrepair. I've heard that, because they are porous, these types of flags will stain if ordinary mix is use to set them to the base. Is this true? If so, can anyone advise me on a suitable mix to use? Also, what mix can I point with?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated by a keen patio novice!

Many thanks,

Some of the highly permeable sandstones from India are prone to a problem of picture-fraining and staining if laid on a wet mix bed. If liad on semi-dry, there's rarely a problem.

If you read the main website, advice on bedding and pointing can be found in the section covering the laying of flagstones. Start here
