Hi

I am going to replace and extend my existing patio. The area I need to pave is about 19 sq metres.

I am no paving or DIY expert so this is my dilemma.

1.) Would I be better hiring somebody to lay the new patio, and how much would this cost (estimate) based on the size of the patio (19 sq metres). The slabs I will be using in all probability will be 450 x 450.

Or...

2.) Laying the patio myself, is this something you would recommend a novice DIY person to undertake especially if you want a good result?

TIA

Ian

I can't comment on cost as prices vary so much throughout the country, and the precise type of flags you choose can make a significant difference. However, it's the prep work that really contributes to overall cost, and, as I can't see your site, I can't say what would be required. there are some very simple price guides given on the main website.

When it comes to DIY or Contractor, only you can make that decision. Obviously, if you emnploy a reputable and competent contractor, you'll get a better quality of work done in less time, but, as several users of this forum will attest, there's a tremendous sense of self-achievement in building your own, even if it's not perfect in every little detail.
