Hi all, Brilliant Site!! Im struggling to get my head round flagging around a tree.

The tree is around 15 foot tall and the girth is around 18 inches. The flags to be laid are 450 x 450 x38 Marshalls Saxon paving slabs. area to be flagged is 20m2

Do I, Excavate 100mm, including around the tree, lay sand bed, and lay slabs up to the tree with a small gap around it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

You probably want to consider any future growth of the tree. We're all seen where flags/tarmac has been lifted up by a tree along the pavements etc.. Might be worth leaving a bigger gap to account for any growth.

Never pave closer than 600mm to the trunk of a tree, and make that 1 metre for any tree over 6m (20 feet) in height. It's not just a matter of the paving being lifted by root growth; the paving limits the opportunity for essential gases and moisture to reach the rootzone.
