Dear all,

I am planning to lay approx 12' x 12' of slabs. Each slab is approx 3' long, 2' wide and 2" thick. They are to be used as a base for a shed/workshop.

I am trying to work out whether to use a 20mm ballast/cement mix to lay these slabs, or whether to use a sand/cement mix ?

Some people say that the ballast option would be to 'solid' i.e. not give the slabs any kind of movement (which a lighter mix of sand/cement would do).

Any advice on this would be greatly asppreciated.

Many thanks.

Virtually one out of every two posts to this forum says the same thing - flags for residential projects are best laid on a 10:1 mix of semi-dry grit sand and cement.
