I am after some advice, I want to pave my driveway with sandstone flags, I have been advised that 35mm flags are adequate however I am paving over an existing crazy paving base. Do I need to break up the existing paving to form a core base or can I just lay my slabs on top of it?. Do I need 50mm+ slabs instead of 35mm?. Thanks in advance :)

35mm flags won't last more than a couple of weeks on a driveway, unless they were to be laid on at least 100mm of concrete.

I'd also be wary about laying over existing: will you have the correct levels, bearing in mind that you need to be at least 150mm below DPC where the drive abuts any building?
