We are about to lay a new patio - a large one of around 100sqm. We want a light gold colour and a stone which is fairly smooth or very lightly riven. We do not want it to look aged. We seem to have look at loads of suppliers - without finding what we want. Natural stones look nice - but can be rather white or very riven. The concrete varieties are nearly always excessively riven.

For interest, we prefer to be able to have several sizes of stone and a circle. AND, we do not want to pay an arm and a leg for it.

Is there any such product out there?

Hi landa,

Have you looked at Bradstone old riven slabs in autumn gold or maybe TopPave Bronte slabs in york buff colour(more cotswold than gold though)? Both have a subtle riven texture and are available with circle kits.

Thanks, James. We thought Old Riven a possibility, but it is still more riven than we like. Have not looked at TopPave, so will try that.

Honey Millstone from Stonemarket? If you prefer natural stone, have a look at their Cotsdale, a buffy-light yellow limestone that's a lot smoother than other riven flags.

Some of the genuine yorkstones are truly golden-buff and come in all 'degrees' of riven-ness (suerly that can't be a real word, can it? Rivenosity? Rivenation?) but cost more than the imported stone. Johnmson Wellfield in 'Uddersfield do a lovely creamy-gold flagstone.
