Hi there, just registered with the forum as I have just one question to ask. When laying sandstone flags in the front patio of my house, instead of using a bedding mix of Sharp Sand/Cement (10:1), would the use of 6mm to dust limestone be OK, in place of the sharp sand.

The only reason for me asking, is that i have around 1.5 tonnes of the damn stuff just sitting there.

Thanks for any help and advice, and a great site too

Stick with the sharp sand and cement flags will not bed into or bond to aggregates. Alan D.

6mm to dust limestone should be self-binding. Although it could be used as a laying course material, it's not particularly easy to work and it's a waste of a good and useful product that's an ideal topping for a garden path.

If you simply have to get rid of it, then mixing it with grit sand will improve its workability, but I;d be desperately seeking other uses for it, before using it to lay flags.
