I'm about to start relaying a very old flagged area about 6x4 metres sq. The existing flags are broken and poor quality. They will be replaced with stock taken from inside the house which is generally of superior quality but varies widely in size and less so in surface quality and is uncut. The area was and will continue to be used to park cars but also as an outdoor play/eating area when cars are not there. The area slopes slightly for drainage As a (currently) enthusiastic amateur, what equipment would I be best advised to use to cut the flags (some of which are 150mm thick er... "ballbreakers" I think is the term used), saw or hydraulic guillotine? An indication of cost and how long this might take me would be useful too!

Power saw.
A hydraulic splitter or guillotine is ok for stone of known quality, but as you're cuttings flags that have been down for god knows how long, they may have started to delaminate and that renders them useless for splitting.
Hire yourself a power saw with a diamond blade and save yourself a lot of grief.
