I am currently studying HND Landscape Technology which involves hard landscaping. We have had many lecturers show us how to lay flags and they all used the five spot method, yet this is frowned upon on this website.

Please could anyone tell me why the five spot method is so bad and why a solid mortar base is better.

I would also like to know at what depth you would lay the mortar for the solid mortar base.

Have you read the "Why spot bedding is bad" page on the web site?
