Please humour me.
I want to install about 100m2 of paving (part driveway and part patio) around my house.
Ideally I would like Yorkstone (as I live in York), but I've been quoted 70GBP/m2 supply only.
So I am looking for alternatives and need help narrowing my choice down....and price expectation. I would spend up to 30GBP/m2 for the stone itself.
My queries:
1. Is Yorkstone really that expensive?
2. I am open to ideas as to alternatives (stone/concrete) that looks similar, any suggestions/price?
3. Ideas as to where to purchase in/around York?
Thanks....

1 - Yes: Yorkstone
is that expensive, but, if you shop around, you can get it for around two-thirds of that price by taking a thinner flag (40mm) for the patio, and a 65 or 70mm thickness for the driveway. Reclaimed yorkstone can be had for 30-40 quid per square metre, for top quality stuff.
2: There's a lot of
imported sandstone on the market just now. It's not quite as good a real yorkstone, but it's only the anoraks like me that can tell! :)
3 - Try Andy over at Bingley Stone. He has both Yorkstone and imported stone, and he's less than an hour from your place. Tel: 01535 273813

Thanks.
Where should/could I look for reclaimed Yorkstone at the prices your suggest? I emailed Bingley and got very high quotes (at the top end of my original quote, with reclaimed yorkstone the same as the new stuff).
Any other suggestions, or failing that, any good (reasonably priced) sources of good quality Indian stone local to me?)
Thanks for the continued help.

Tony, I am also looking for suppliers of York and/or Indian flags (about 75m2). Can you recommend anywhere in the St Albans area? I notice your site mentions Global Stone in Colchester. Is there anywhere closer?
Great site by the way!

Stoneplan, in Dalton Terrace, York. 01904/656538 stock some WS products, and have an attractive display. Price should be around £20 to £25 / per m.
Good luck

ps - Westminster Stone are also suppliers of both Reclaimed and Newly Quarried Yorkstone, although prices are likely to be around the £40+ / m sq.
WS also supply Indian sandstone; flagstones, circle features and setts, very competitively. National distribution service with mechanical offloading also available.

I'm sure John could supply your needs, and I'm even more sure you'll be delighted with the stone paving his company supplies, but in the interest of balance, you could also try Butterfields in Luton (01582 491100) or Rock Unique in Sevenoaks (01959 565608)
