Tony,
I'm after a bit of reassurance! I was recently laying a patio which has an inspection chamber in it. The chamber is of brick construction.
The cover frame and top course of bricks in the chamber were loose so I removed them, cleaned them up and relaid the bricks and frame.
I used a wet mix 6 parts sharp sand to 1 part cement (it's what I had to hand!) to lay the bricks and bed the frame. Ideally I guess I should have used a soft sand/cement mix but is the mix I've used okay?
Regards
Gary

It'll be fine, Gary. The mortar, at 6:1, will be plenty strong enough whether you use sharp or building sand. It's just that building sand makes a more workable mortar, that's why it's normally prescribed for bricklaying purposes.
What happened to your post, Ken? Did you get a mystery error message? That seems to be happening a lot of late and can only be down to the performance of the server, as I've changed nothing in the software.
Maybe it's time for a new webhost - I'm becoming more and more disillusioned with the drop in service level that's been happening over the past 6 months. First it was the form mail script being invalidated, then the bandwidth and access logs going awry, followed by intermittent periods of the site being completely inaccessible, and, over the past couple of weeks, error messages when posting to the Brew Cabin. Has anyone else noticed any glitches or mysterious goings-on?
