I'm intending to make a hard standing for my car. It'll be about 20 sq metres. I've been advised that it would be fine to lay a slab of concrete between 1.5" and 2" thick and put paving slabs on top.

I've also been told tht this will be broken by christmas and that I should have 4" of compacted ruble type stuff with the paving slabs on top.

I've also been told that the 1.5" - 2" slab with paving on top might be OK as long as I put re-enforcing steel mesh in it.

What do I really need? :(

I don't want to dig out anymore than I have done already.

The plan is to lay concrete up to the level of the existing concrete/paving slabs and then pave over the top of the whole area:

This is area that I want to concrete (upto existing paving slab/concrete slab hardstanding) and the pave over:

Needless to say, I'm a bit confused. ???

Any sugestions gratefully received.

Cheers,

Mark

As shown on the main website, you need to lay the flags on AT LEAST 100mm of ST1 concrete (this is the third time I've answered the same question in the last ten minutes!)

Full guidance is given on the main website - honest! I don't just make it up! Start on the Laying Flags page.

I'm going for a lie down (after I've kicked the cat!)
