I am laying a new patio and path. I intend to use gravel for both. For the path, I wish to use SBG. It has a very gentle gradient and will be about 70mm deep. I live in Bath.

1) What is the best product to use. I am looking for a colour of 'charred flint'. Are there any local suppliers?

For the patio, which is flat, I wish to use gravel, but SBG probably won't give the right look.

2) Where can I get 'charred flint' for this purpose?

SBGs (Self Binding Gravels, for those unfamiliar with the acronym) vary according to location. There are a couple of types that travel nationwide, but most are specific to a particular region, and flint is one of those, as it rarely makes it up here to the civilised north.

Further, I don't know Bath terribly well, having only ever visted the place once, and so I can't recommend such-and-such a supplier, as it's off 'my patch' so to speak. I do know that WT Burdens have a strong presence around there and they are generally very good at sourcing specific aggregates (at least, the Warrington branch is!), so they would be my first port of call. Other than them, there's a cvompany called Foster Yeoman who are based in Bristol or somewhere around there, and they supply quite a lot of aggregates, so they might be able to help.
