Hi, I have recently had fencing and 12 ft timber gates fitted across a drive. Partly for security and privacy but also to keep my dog safe. The gates were a bargain and are a little undersized on height. This and the fact that the ground slopes away from right to left has resulted in about a 6" gap on right and a 10" gap on left. So Houdini the dog could still excape. I can't fix anything solid to bottom of gates as they will ground on concrete drive when fully open. Kerb stones, backed up and set in sloping concrete has been suggested or a flexible rubber edging/skirt for bottom of gate? Would anyone know where I could find one of these or is there a better solution. I am planning to put chunky slate chips down on drive surface, so I suppose the kerb solution would stop the slate traveling. Thanks

You can get a bar to fix to the underside of the gate which hangs on chains and scrapes across the concrete as you open/close the gate. May be noisy but perhaps the easiest option. I'm sure a gate maker could provide.

Or lay a 150-250mm concrete on top of the existing, bond it with Ronafix and cement to make sure it stays there.

Or go for the blocks, bonded in a Ronafix:cement mortar.

If you want info on the Ronafix, just mail me, simeon at ronacrete.co.uk or call our Tech Team on 01279 638700.

Cut a piece of wood to the profile of the gap. Fit it on hinges on the bottom of the gate. Fit a trolley wheel to the downhill edge. As the gate opens the wheel will traverse the terrain and lift the profiled board.
